CIRCLIPS · SHAFT, BORE AND E-TYPE RETENTION

DIN 471, DIN 472 and DIN 6799 Circlips

Circlips provide axial retention in a shaft or bore groove. The range includes external rings to DIN 471, internal rings to DIN 472, bearing applications using the applicable shaft or bore configuration, and E-type retaining washers to DIN 6799.

INSTALLATION TYPE

Start with shaft, bore or radial installation

The installation identifies which nominal dimension and groove data matter. Keep external, internal and E-type requirements separate even when their nominal numbers appear similar.

External · DIN 471

Retaining rings installed in a groove on a shaft.

Internal · DIN 472

Retaining rings installed in a groove inside a housing or bore.

Bearing application

Select shaft or bore installation and record the bearing or assembly reference.

E-type · DIN 6799

Radially installed retaining washers for the selected nominal groove size.

STANDARD LOOKUP

Review groove guidance from the selected size

The inquiry displays the supported groove diameter and groove-width guidance after the installation type and nominal size are selected. The current governing standard and approved assembly drawing remain the final authority, particularly where edition changes affect dimensional limits or corrosion-protection designations.

MATERIAL AND FINISH

Specify the spring material and corrosion protection

Approved options include carbon spring steel, a stainless selection and Other / Custom, with product-specific phosphate, zinc or self-finish choices. Confirm the material, hardness, finish and inspection requirement for the service environment.

APPLICATION DETAIL

Retaining capacity depends on the complete groove system

A nominal ring size alone is not a complete engineering selection. Shaft or bore material, groove geometry, edge distance, axial loading and assembly constraints should be reviewed by the responsible designer before ordering.

BUYER QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between DIN 471 and DIN 472?

DIN 471 covers retaining rings for shafts, while DIN 472 covers retaining rings for bores. Their installation and groove requirements are different.

Does the inquiry calculate the groove dimensions?

It provides supported standard lookup guidance for the selected type and nominal size. The current standard and approved assembly drawing remain the final authority.

Are E-type circlips the same as external circlips?

No. E-type retaining washers are radially installed and are configured separately under DIN 6799.
